GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - As No. 10/10 Green Bay (30-1, 17-1 HL) prepares for its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, senior Julie Wojta (Francis Creek, Wis.) adds another accolade to her resume for announcers to talk about during the game as she was one of 52 players named an All-Region nominee for the WBCA Coaches' All-America Team.
On Mar. 19, the list of 52 will be trimmed to 40 finalists who will then be in the running for selection to the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team.
This Horizon League Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Tournament MVP was also named as one of 15 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award, is on the Wade Watch Trophy list and the Naismith list.
Wojta has had a record season with the Phoenix, becoming one of the program's most decorated players. The 6'0" forward has moved into the top-10 in 10 statistical categories on Green Bay's individual career record list this season. Wojta owns the Division I program record with 34 career double double performances, tallying 18 during the 2011-12 season.
Green Bay will face No. 10 seed Iowa State (18-12, 9-9 Big 12) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday, Mar. 17 in Ames, Iowa at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Coliseum. Entering the contest, Wojta's 3.6 steals per game ranks first among players in the 64-team field. The senior captain leads the Phoenix averaging 19.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, ranking 19th and 22nd in the nation in the respective statistics.
In addition to Wojta being a Region 6 nominee, Iowa State junior Chelsea Poppens is a Region 5 All-America Team nominee.
