GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The No. 13/11 Green Bay (32-1) women's basketball team loaded the buses shortly before 9 a.m. Friday and departed the Kress Events Center en route to the NCAA Tournament for the third-consecutive season. As the fifth seed, the Phoenix will face 12th-seeded UALR (23-7) in the first round of the tournament on Sunday at 4:20 p.m. on ESPN2.
Expectations are high and excitement surrounds the Phoenix who has had its best season in program history. But before Green Bay could continue its record-breaking journey down the yellow brick road to Kansas, the players needed a pair of ruby red slippers - and they got just that.
Junior Hannah Quilling (Eau Claire, Wis.) and senior Kayla Tetschlag (Sheboygan, Wis.) creatively made each member of the team its own pair of ruby red slippers for the trip to Kansas for what is hoping to be a magical journey.
