GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – For the fourth time this season, Green Bay freshman Tesha Buck (Red Wing, Minn.) was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

In addition to being the fourth recognition for Buck this season, it is the sixth freshman of the week honor for the Phoenix, with Mehryn Kraker (West Allis, Wis.) also taking home honors twice this season. Buck also won the award on Nov. 18, Nov. 25 and Dec. 16.

In games against Wright State and Valparaiso last weekend, Buck finished averaging a combined 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals in 40.5 minutes of action. She also shot 40.0 percent (10-25) from the field and 31.6 percent (6-19) from deep.

In a thrilling overtime victory over Wright State on Thursday, Buck played a team-high 43 minutes en route to posting her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She also added a game-high five assists and three steals. With the Phoenix leading by five with six seconds remaining in overtime Buck came up big, grabbing a defensive rebound before she was fouled. She walked to the other end of the court and sunk both of her free throws to seal the 79-72 win for the Phoenix.

She followed that with another stat stuffing performance, totaling 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win against Valparaiso on Saturday. Buck came up with timely steals for the Phoenix and helped jumpstart the offense in the second half, having a hand in four of the first five baskets scored. She connected on two three point attempts to start before dishing out assists on baskets by Kraker and Megan Lukan.

This season Buck leads the team averaging 1.8 steals per game while standing second with 4.0 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game and third with 10.2 points per game. She is just one of three players and the only freshman to stand among the conference leaders in points, rebounds, assists and steals per game, joining teammate Megan Lukan and Oakland’s Elena Popkey.

Green Bay concludes regular season this week at home, welcoming Oakland on Thursday and Detroit on Saturday.
