In 2010, Green Bay received the first at-large bid in program history and played in Ames as a No. 12 seed. The Phoenix defeated fifth-seeded Virginia 69-67 in the first round before falling to fourth-seeded Iowa State 60-56 in the second round. Former Phoenix standout Kayla Tetschlag had 29 points in that contest while Julie Wojta (Mishicot, Wis.), then a sophomore, added 12 points and five rebounds.

Green Bay carried the momentum of that NCAA Tournament appearance into a 34-2 record in 2010-11 that culminated with wins over UALR and Michigan State and a trip to the Sweet 16. In a matchup with top-seeded Baylor in Dallas, fifth-seeded Green Bay lost a tough battle, 86-76.

The Phoenix is led by Wojta, who is an All-American candidate and the Horizon League Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. The versatile senior is averaging 19.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and is coming off a 29-point performance in a 66-53 win over Detroit in the Horizon League tournament title game.

Chelsea Poppins leads three double-digit Iowa State scorers at 14.3 points per game. As a team, the Cyclones have made 7.3 three-pointers per game. The only common opponent on the team's schedules is Butler, with Iowa State beating the Bulldogs at home, 66-44. Green Bay swept its two meetings with Butler in 2011-12.
