Kraker Earns Third Freshman of the Week Honors

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – For the third time this season, Green Bay women’s basketball forward Mehryn Kraker (West Allis, Wis.) was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Green Bay has now taken home freshman of the week accolades seven times this season, with Tesha Buck (Red Wing, Minn.) earning the other four. Kraker was named the freshman of the week after the opening weekend of the season on Nov. 11 and again on Feb. 3.
In the final weekend of regular season games, Kraker averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game in wins over Oakland and Detroit. She finished the weekend shooting over 50 percent from the field and from deep, going 10-for-15 from the field (66.7%) and 4-for-7 (57.1) from long range, while shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Against Detroit on Saturday, Kraker finished with her first career double-double, totaling 17 points and a game- and career-high 12 rebounds. She also tied her career best marks with two blocks and two steals in addition to chipping in an assist. She was 6-for-9 from the field in the game and 2-for-4 from three. Facing Oakland on Thursday, Kraker added 12 points and a game-high four assists, shooting 4-for-6 from the field.
This season, Kraker is averaging 9.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.8 steals per game in 27 contests.
Green Bay opens up postseason play on Wednesday as the top seed in the Horizon League Tournament. It will face either No. 8 Detroit or No. 9 Valparaiso at the Kress Events Center at 7 p.m.
