GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – Vincent Garrett, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard who played his junior season at Rutgers in 2012-13, has transferred to Green Bay, men’s basketball head coach Brian Wardle announced on Tuesday. Garrett has one year of eligibility remaining, and Green Bay will consider a petition to the NCAA for eligibility next season.

Garrett is a 2010 graduate of Marshall High School in Chicago, where he was a teammate of current Phoenix players Keifer Sykes and Alfonzo McKinnie.

“That was a big attraction,” Garrett said. “Keifer Sykes and Al (McKinnie) told me how much they love playing for Coach Wardle and the coaching staff, and for me to be with players I know I’m comfortable with and who know my style of play – that’s a big plus.

“As soon as Keifer heard I was transferring he told Coach Wardle about me and when I visited Green Bay I really appreciated how honest and straight-forward coach was with me about everything. I really like the team’s fast style of play and I can see myself fitting in great with the guys. I’m a very athletic guy who can run the floor and can score the ball well, but most of all I’m just looking to help my team win.”

He becomes the fourth member of Green Bay’s 2013 recruiting class, as Wardle also inked combo guard Tevin Findlay in May and Little Chute High School teammates Kenneth Lowe and Turner Botz in November’s early signing period.

“We are extremely excited to add Vince Garrett to our Phoenix family,” Wardle said. “He is a hungry, tough and experienced young man who is eager to help our program continue to improve. His versatility and competitive nature adds depth to our roster. Vince is also another Marshall High School player, who we know won’t back down to anyone and will be very entertaining for Phoenix fans to watch.”

Garrett started his collegiate career at Lee Junior College in Baytown, Texas, under head coach Roy Champagne. An All-Region South Zone First Team pick in 2011-12, the athletic, scoring wing averaged 16 points, six rebounds and two assists per game and helped the Rebels to a 19-12 overall record.

Garrett signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play at Rutgers in April of 2012, and appeared in 12 games for the Scarlet Knights as a junior last season, averaging 1.5 points per contest.

As a senior at Marshall High School under head coach Henry Cotton, he averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds per game to earn All-Public honors and help the Commandos to a 28-7 record. Along with Sykes and McKinnie, Garrett aided Marshall to an appearance in the 2010 city championship game, a regional title and a third-place finish in the Class 3A State Tournament. He also posted a strong performance in the 2010 Chicago High School All-Star Classic, registering 12 points and nine rebounds.

Garrett was highly-touted coming out junior college, reportedly receiving scholarship offers from Oregon State, Texas A&M and UNLV in addition to Rutgers.
