Green Bay Opens Home Schedule With Pair of Wins

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( - The Green Bay men's tennis team (6-1) opened its home slate on Saturday with a pair of wins over nationally-ranked Division III opponents at Western Racquet and Fitness Club. The Phoenix first defeated No. 2 Kenyon College 7-0 before downing No. 29 UW-Whitewater 5-2.

In the win over Kenyon, the Phoenix captured the doubles point thanks to wins by Craig Cox (Surrey, England) and Erik Finkenbrink (Duelmen, Germany) at No. 1 and Michael Tebon (Excelsior, Minn.) and Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) at No. 2. Green Bay went on to take all six singles contests in straight sets.

Tenzer earned a win at the No. 1 spot, defeating Kenyon's Michael Razumovsky 6-4, 6-4. Finkenbrink and Cox also picked up singles victories, as Finkenbrink took down Paul Burgin 6-3, 6-2 and Cox knocked off Kevin Ye at No. 3 6-2, 6-2.

In the evening match against the Warhawks, it was Cox and Finkenbrink leading a Phoenix sweep in doubles action with a convincing 8-2 win over Mitch Osborne and Ben Shklyar at No. 1. Tenzer and Tebon teamed up once again for an 8-6 win at No. 2, and the freshman duo of Rowan Isaaks (London, England) and Joey Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.) combined for an 8-2 win at No. 3.

Earning singles wins against UW-Whitewater were Cox at No. 1, Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) at No. 2, Marius Merz (Heidelberg, Germany) at No. 5 and Tebon at No. 6.

After the short homestand Green Bay returns to the road for a pair of matches in DeKalb, Ill., against Western Illinois and Northern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 22. The Phoenix will play its next 13 matches away from home before returning to Western Racquet on Saturday, April 6 to face Youngstown State.
