KALAMAZOO, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s tennis team clinched at least a share of its second consecutive Horizon League regular season title on Friday evening, knocking off Detroit 5-2 in a neutral site contest in Kalamazoo. The Phoenix improved to a perfect 5-0 in conference play with the win and 15-7 overall.

The Titans (3-15, 0-6 HL) took the doubles point to start the match, but the Phoenix rallied to win five of the six singles contests en route to the victory.

Junior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany), sophomore Howard Scott (Exeter, England) and freshman Jorge Gonzalez Soler (Madrid, Spain) each picked up straight-set wins on Friday. Tenzer knocked off Detroit’s Bobby Cawood 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1, Scott defeated Rafael Orantes 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and Gonzalez Soler routed Chance Conley 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

Sophomores Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) and Rowan Isaaks (London, England) both earned three-set wins, as Gomez Islinger battled to a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 triumph over Patryk Koscielski at No. 2 and Isaaks came back to defeat Ismail Kadyrov 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 5.

Tenzer and Scott teamed up for Green Bay’s lone doubles win – an 8-5 result against Orantes and Chance Conley at No. 1.

Green Bay can secure the Horizon League title outright on Saturday when it travels to take on Wright State in Dayton, Ohio in the regular season finale at 3 p.m.
