Green Bay Takes Fourth at Crusader/Jaguar Challenge
VALPARAISO, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Carding a 79 in the second round, sophomore Katie Pokrandt (Eau Claire, Wis.) earned a top-10 finish at the Crusader/Jaguar Challenge. Pokrandt’s effort helped the Phoenix finish in fourth place at the 36-hole event played at The Course at Aberdeen.
Green Bay’s second round score of 331 was 24 strokes better than its 355 in the opening 18 holes. The Phoenix jumped from fifth to fourth, finishing behind Indianapolis (622), Valparaiso (657) and IUPUI (675). Indianapolis’ Jaclyn Schindler was the individual medalist.
Pokrandt posted rounds of 86 and 79 to finish in a tie for ninth place. Sophomore Sammi Grunder (Pardeeville, Wis.) was in 17th place after rounds of 87 and 83. Freshman Avery Steen (Luck, Wis.) was six strokes better in round two, finishing in a tie for 20th place (90-84).
Phoenix senior Molly Fassbinder (Hudson, Wis.) had the biggest improvement on her second 18 holes, shaving nine strokes off her opening 94 to card an 85 and finish in 25th place.
Green Bay will now prepare for the 2014 Horizon League Championship, which is set for April 24-26 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
