TAMPA, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Beginning play at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday, Green Bay got back on the winning track with wins over Army and Buffalo.

The Phoenix improved to 10-2 after blanking Army, 4-0, and topping Buffalo, 4-2.

Game 1 Green Bay 4, Army 0
The Phoenix got its second shutout of the season as it blanked Army, 4-0, in its first game of the Rebel Spring Games.

Capitalizing on two out run production in the bottom of the second, freshman Allie Taylor (Waunakee, Wis.) drove in the first run of the game with runners on first and second, delivering an RBI single to center field. The next batter, sophomore Kelli Hutchinson (Trevor, Wis.), hit another outfield single to bring in one more run and put Green Bay ahead, 2-0.

A two run home run from sophomore Marissa Michalkiewicz (Appleton, Wis.) in the bottom of the sixth provided the final runs of the game, as the Phoenix took the 4-0 win.

Sophomore Briana Cavin (Elk Grove Village, Wis.) picked up her third win of the season and second complete game, scattering six hits over seven innings with three strikeouts and a walk. Michalkiewicz finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and on run scored, while Taylor and Hutchinson each were 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Game 2 Green Bay 4, Buffalo 2
Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Green Bay put up two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to get its second win of the day as it topped Buffalo, 4-2.

Buffalo registered single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before the Phoenix rallied for the win. Sophomore Marissa Michalkiewicz (Appleton, Wis.) led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Katelyn Huemmer (Sun Prairie, Wis.), moved to third on a passed ball and then crossed home on another pass ball for the first Phoenix run. Freshman Abby Brinkmeier (Eagan, Minn.) then walked and came home on an RBI double from sophomore Alyssa Johnson (Elmhurst, Ill.) to tie the game at 2-2.

Green Bay took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth on a home run by senior Miranda Reinke (Milwaukee, Wis.) for the final 4-2 margin.

Junior Lauren Danner (Kaukauna, Wis.) improved to 2-1 with the win, throwing five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits. Senior Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) earned her second save of the season, throwing the final two with a single strikeout.

Michalkiewicz went 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored, while Reinke was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Green Bay concludes its trip to Florida tomorrow, facing Iona in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon.
