Ebert Posts Strong Back Nine in Round 1 of NCAA Regionals
ANN ARBOR, MIch. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay junior Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) bounced back from a challenging opening nine to card an even-par 35 over his final nine holes and post a 5-over par 76 on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Regional at the par-71, 6,723-yard University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The first Green Bay golfer to compete at the NCAA Championships, Ebert is tied for 48th place in the 75-player field with 36 holes to play. The junior will tee off in Friday's second round in the day's final group at 9:20 a.m. CT. Follow the action live here.
On the front nine, Ebert carded three bogeys and a double bogey and made the turn at 5-over 41. The junior responded with a birdie at the 417-yard, par-4 10th hole and made seven pars and a bogey over the final eight holes to finish with a 76.
Ebert earned a spot in the regionals by winning the 2012 Horizon League individual title on April 29. The junior's victory was the first of his collegiate career and helped the Phoenix finish in second place in the team championship.
He became the first Phoenix golfer to win the Horizon League championship since Shaun Rezachek in 2001 and the second all-time. Rezachek was also the individual medalist in 1998.
