Ebert, Fuller and Green Bay to Enter Final Round in Second
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Juniors Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) and Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) continued to lead the Green Bay men's golf team at the 2012 Horizon League Championships on Saturday, and the Phoenix will enter the final round just two strokes off the lead.
Green Bay has a two-day total of 607 after shooting 18-over 306 in round two, while Loyola came from behind the pack with a 291 on Saturday and leads with a 36-hole score of 605. Detroit (610, +34), Cleveland State (611, +35) and Valparaiso (614, +38) round out the top five and are all within 10 strokes of the lead.
Ebert and Fuller both followed their round one 74s with a pair resilient 4-over par 76s and are tied with three others for second place with 36-hole scores of 6-over 150. Detroit's Lucas Kim leads the field by three strokes at 3-over 147.
Ebert had a resilient round of 4-over 76 on Saturday. The junior bogeyed his first three holes and had a triple bogey seven on the seventh hole to make the turn in 6-over 41. Ebert responded by birdying 10, 14 and 15 to shoot a 2-under 35 on the inward nine. With three birdies on his own card, Fuller also carded a 76 on Saturday.
Sophomore Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) also shot a 76 on Saturday and is tied for 12h place at 9-over 153. Ozga birdied the opening hole for the second-straight day and tallied a team-high 13 pars in his round.
Tyler Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis.) was five-over through seven holes, but the freshman birdied the ninth hole and carded eight pars on the back nine to finish with a 6-over 78. Schmidt is tied for 30th overall.
In a tie for 19th at 11-over 155, sophomore Sam Weber (Heartland, Wis.) is the fourth Phoenix golfer in the top-20 after rounds of 76 and 79.
