HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - On the strength of a final round 73 from senior Austin Ehlenfeldt (Beaver Dam, Wis.) and a top-10 finish from sophomore Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.), the Green Bay men's golf team finished in fourth place at the 2011 Horizon League Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey in the Hills, Fla.
Green Bay shot its best round of the tournament on Sunday, firing a 307 to help the Phoenix improve from sixth place after Saturday's second round. Ehlenfeldt's team-best 73 included a three-under par 34 on the back nine and helped the senior earn a tie for 11th place. His 73 tied for the second-best round of the day.
Ebert finished in the top-10 at the conference championship for the second time in as many years with a three-day total of 232 (+16). His five-over par 77 included two birdies and left him in eighth place.
Sophomore Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) carded three birdies and a two-under par 35 on the back side on Sunday to finish his round with a 77 and a tie for 13th place overall.
Senior Chris Pural (Green Bay, Wis.) fired his third-straight 80 to finish with a 54-hole total of 240 (+24) and a tie for 23rd place. Freshman Sam Weber (Heartland, Wis.) rounded out the Phoenix golfers with an 84 on Sunday and a 248 for the weekend that left him in 36th.
Cleveland State took the tournament title with a team score of 925 (+61) that was seven strokes clear of second place Wright State. Youngstown State (936, +72) was four strokes better than Green Bay (940, +76) while Loyola and Detroit (943, +79) tied for fifth place in the eight-team field.
