Green Bay Men's Golf Rallies to Take Third Place
MACOMB, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - On the strength of firing the best score of the second round, the Green Bay men's golf team moved from sixth place to finish in third at the Beu/Massato Invitational hosted by Western Illinois. The Phoenix fired an eight-over par 296 in the second round, with the third round being cancelled due to inclement weather.
The host Western Illinois (294-299=593/+17) finished first on the strength of Andrew Godfrey's 36-hole total of one-under par 143 (69-74). South Dakota State (299-297=596/+20) finished in second place, five strokes clear of Green Bay (305-296=601/+25). North Dakota State (302-303=605/+29) and Eastern Illinois (304-302=606/+30) rounded out the top five in the 16-team field.
Senior Austin Ehlenfeldt (Green Bay, Wis.) carded an even-par 72 in the second round to post a top-10 finish. The senior had a 36-hole total of 148 (+4), good enough to tie for ninth place.
Sophomore Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) finished in a tie for 16th place (76-76=+7) while freshman Sam Weber (Heartland, Wis.) had a 1-over par 73 in the second round, six strokes better than round one, to finish in a tie for 22nd. Sophomore Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) tied for 28th (77-76=153) and senior Chris Pural (Green Bay, Wis.) was one stroke back and finished in a tie for 32nd (76-78=154).
Green Bay will take a few weeks off before competing in the Detroit Titans Invitational on April 17-18.
