OXBOW, N.D. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Shooting a one-over 73 Tuesday, Sam Weber claimed medalist honors in leading the Green Bay men's golf team to victory at the Erv Kaiser Invitational at Oxbow Country Club. The Phoenix took the team title by eight strokes over Manitoba.
Green Bay shot a team score of 297 in Tuesday's final round, extending its six-stroke lead heading into the day to an eight-stroke win. The Phoenix broke 900 for the event with a 54-hole total of 35-over 899. Manitoba (907) was second while North Dakota State (910), North Dakota (922) and South Dakota (940) rounded out the top five
Weber, whose 54-hole total was five-over 221 and who was a sparkling three-under par for the tourney, was threatened by teammateon Tuesday. Fuller birdied his first two holes of the day en route to a closing round 71 and tied for second.
finished with a final round 77 and finished in a tie for eighth (228, +12) while teammate carded a 76 Tuesday and finished in a tie for 12th (230, +14). Paul Bretl rounded out the team scorers for the Phoenix in a tie for 21st (235, +19)
Competing as an individual, Green Bay's Dan Ozga carded 12 pars Tuesday for a final round 72 that left him alone in fifth place.
The Phoenix will return to the links on Saturday, Oct. 2, competing in the Chicago State Triangular.
