Green Bay Edged 4-3 by #63 Arkansas on Saturday
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's tennis team (3-2) dropped its second-straight contest to a ranked opponent on Saturday, falling 4-3 to No. 63 Arkansas in Minneapolis.
Green Bay fell behind 1-0 after Arkansas swept the doubles point, but strong singles play nearly helped the Phoenix pull off the upset.
Sophomore Howard Scott (Exeter, England) earned a hard-fought win at the No. 2 singles spot, taking down the Razorbacks' Hall Fess 6-5 (6), 6-4.
Classmate Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) rolled to a convincing win in his No. 3 singles match, beating Santiago Munoz 6-1, 6-0, and freshman Jorge Gonzalez Soler (Madrid, Spain) came from behind to beat Juan Marino (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) at No. 6 singles, but it wasn't enough as Arkansas won at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 to secure the 4-3 result.
Green Bay will play its third consecutive match against a ranked opponent on Friday when it travels to Des Moines, Iowa to take on No. 30 Drake.
