Men's Soccer Set for NIU Adidas Invite

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s soccer team will look to remain unbeaten this weekend as it travels to DeKalb, Ill. to take part in the Northern Illinois University Adidas Invite. The Phoenix will face Northwestern on Friday at 4 p.m. before taking on host NIU on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Green Bay enters the weekend 3-0-1, most recently defeating Viterbo, 3-1, on Monday afternoon. The start is the program’s best since 2009, when it started the season 6-0-2.
Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) currently leads the team and Horizon League with four goals, while Sabastian Xiong (Cottage Grove, Wis.) is right behind with three goals. Tyler Swanner (Glen Carbon, Ill.) and Lawrence Talery (Coon Rapids, Minn.) are tied atop the conference standings with three assists apiece. In goal, Kyle Ihn (Wales, Wis.) has started three of the four matches this season, recording a 1.90 goals-against average and a .714 save percentage.

WATCHING THE WILDCATS: Roster Schedule Stats
Friday’s match will be the 18th meeting between the two squads, with the Wildcats owning an 8-6-3 advantage in the all-time series. The two squads last met on September 1, 2009, when the two teams played to a 3-3 draw. Northwestern was ranked ninth in the country at the time.
Northwestern is 2-1-0 this season, dropping its season opener to UC Santa Barbara before recording back-to-back wins against DePaul and Xavier. Joey Calistri leads the team with five points on two goals and one assists, while Brandon Medina has three points on a goal and an assist. Tyler Miller has started all three matches this season, posting a 0.93 goals-against average and a .700 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Roster Schedule Stats
Hosts of the weekend tournament, Northern Illinois will take on Butler on Friday evening before facing Green Bay on Sunday. It will be the 37th meeting between the teams, with NIU leading the all-time series 15-13-8. Green Bay edged the Huskies last season, 2-1, in double overtime at Santaga Stadium.
Entering the weekend with a record of 1-3-0, NIU won its season opener versus Cincinnati but has since lost three consecutive. Isaac Kannah leads the team with two goals, and in net Andrew Glaeser and Miles Herbert have spit time, posting combined 1.43 goals-against average and a .739 save percentage.
