Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Tyler Swanner (Glen Carbon, Ill.) connected twice in the match to help propel the Green Bay men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Viterbo on Monday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

The win maintains Green Bay’s unbeaten record this season, 3-0-1, while Viterbo dropped to 1-4-0.

Controlling possession in the first half, Green Bay was able to outshoot Viterbo, 11-2, and went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage. Krenzien headed home the first goal of the match in the 18th minute, working through traffic on a set piece to find a feed from Swanner to put the Phoenix up, 1-0.

It was déjà vu on the second goal, as Swanner and Krenzien hooked up again to put the lead at 2-0. This time Swanner delivered a cross in to the goal box, where Krenzien collected the ball and dribbled through two defenders before tapping it in.

The second half saw the Phoenix put several scoring opportunities on the board, including a sequence of two corner kicks in the 65th and 66th minutes. Swanner took the first corner kick, and Defrim Ramushevski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) headed the ball on goal, as Viterbo’s Luke Newton punched it over the net to set up another corner set piece. This time Sabastian Xiong (Cottage Grove, Wis.) took the kick and Tauren Greenidge (Bridgetown, Barbados) attempted to score, but his shot sailed high.

Green Bay added its final tally of the match in the 72nd minute. Xiong was dragged down in the box, setting up a penalty kick that he was able to convert extending the lead to 3-0.

Not to be deterred, the V-Hawks added their lone goal of the match in the 78th minute off a free kick conversion outside the box by Sam Renstrom.

For the match, Green Bay led in shots, 22-4, and corner kicks, 11-1. Dary DeWalt (Milwaukee, Wis.) made his first collegiate start and also picked up his first win, making one save in net.

The Phoenix returns to the pitch on Friday in game one of the NIU adidas Invite, hosted by Northern Illinois.
