GREEN BAY, Wis. ( - On Feb. 8, Green Bay Athletics welcomed back two of the most successful teams in the history of the men’s basketball program, honoring the back-to-back NCAA Division II National Runner-Up teams from 1978 and 1979. With many players and head coach Dave Buss on hand from these teams, the special night at the Kress Center connected an important era of Green Bay Basketball with head coach Brian Wardle and the current Phoenix team.

Buss, the program's first head coach, led the Phoenix from 1969-1982 and is the winningest coach in school history (271-102). He brought Green Bay to three Division II Final Fours, and his two NCAA Runner-Up teams in 1978 and 1979 had an overall record of 54-10. The teams were instrumental in helping Green Bay make the move to Division I in 1981-82.
