Green Bay Runs to Solid Finish in Horizon League Championship

KENOSHA, Wis. ( - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams had perfect conditions for the 33rd annual Horizon League Cross Country Championship held Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Dannehl National Cross Country Course on the UW-Parkside campus.

Loyola swept the team titles scoring 28 points on the women's side and 22 on the men's side. The Phoenix women had an impressive fifth-place finish with 145 points, edging out host and in-state rival UW-Milwaukee while the men finished eighth with 234 points.

Senior Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) had the strongest finish of her final season with the Phoenix in 21st place with a time of 19:06 while sophomore Nicole Will (Luxemburg, Wis.) was one step behind with a time of 19:07 for 22nd place.

Freshman Sarah Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.), who has had a very impressive start to her collegiate career with Green Bay, finished in 26th place overall with a time of 19:22. Classmate Jennifer Jones (Appleton, Wis.) rounded out the top 30, finishing the 5K course with a time of 19:42 while senior Annie Dehmlow (Forest Lake, Minn.) completed the top five scorers for Green Bay with a time of 20:17.

On the men's side junior Alexander Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) did as he has all season in leading the Phoenix. Kimble ran to a 34th place finish with a time of 26:42. Sophomore Andrew Sorenson (Onalaska, Wis.) crossed the line in 47th place with a time of 27:52 while senior William Lobner (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) rounded out the top 50 finishers in his final conference championship with a time of 28:45.

Seniors Stephen Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) and Evan Wachter (Plymouth, Wis.) crossed the line in 51st and 52nd place respectively with Wagner turning in a time of 28:52 and Wachter finishing with a time of 28:55, rounding out the top five scorers for the Phoenix.

Both teams will have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA District Regional being held Friday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in Madison, Wis.
