Santaga Inducted into WSCA Hall of Fame
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Former Green Bay men's soccer head coach Aldo Santaga was recently inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony held at Lambeau Field. Santaga along with Toby Bares (UW-Oshkosh), Rick Kilps (UW-Parkside), Harry Kelderman (Neenah High School) and Alex Toth Sr. (memorial inductee) are members of the WSCA's third hall of fame class, bringing the total number of members to 13.
Santaga coached the Phoenix from 1978-1991, compiling a 148-102-21 record. He guided Green Bay to an NCAA Tournament Division II First Round appearance during his first season. In addition, Santaga led the Phoenix to the program's first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament berth in 1983.
Throughout his 14 years at Green Bay, Santaga had the privilege of coaching his sons Greg (1980-84) and Scott (1982-86). Santaga's granddaughter, Kristina, played 12 games for the Phoenix in 2009 while grandson Anthony is currently a sophomore on the men's squad after starting four games during his freshman campaign.
