Green Bay Routs South Dakota State 7-0 on Sunday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s tennis team cruised to a convincing home win on Sunday morning, defeating South Dakota State 7-0 at Western Racquet and Fitness Club. The Phoenix improved to 9-4 overall and 4-0 on its home court with the win.

Green Bay rolled to lopsided victories at the No. 1 and 3 doubles spots en route to picking up the match’s opening point, and then went on to take all six singles contests in the sweep.

The No. 40 duo of Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) and Howard Scott (Exeter, England) first won at No. 1 doubles, knocking off Parker Lawley and Mateus Moreira 8-2. At No. 3, Green Bay’s Rowan Isaaks (London, England) and Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) defeated former Phoenix teammate Gary Notkin and Lucas Pereira 8-3 to make it 1-0 Phoenix.

In singles action, Green Bay completed five straight-set wins and also secured a victory via an early finish.

Tenzer led 4-1 at No. 1 in the opening set when SDSU’s Andrea Boglic withdrew, Gomez Islinger defeated Lawley 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Scott won 7-6, 7-2 at No. 3 against Lovro Curcija. Also in singles, Joey Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.) secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Henrique Pereira at the No. 4, Isaaks edged Moreira 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 5 spot and Jorge Gonzalez Soler (Madrid, Spain) finished things off with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Notkin at No. 6.

Green Bay is next in action on Saturday, March 8 at No. 67 Wisconsin.
