GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – Recognized for an outstanding senior campaign with the Green Bay men’s soccer team, senior Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region Second Team team, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Krenzien is taking home NSCAA All-Region honors for the first time in his career. It is the 47th time a Phoenix has earned all-region honors, and first since Tony Walls was recognized after the 2011 season. He was one of seven players from the Horizon League to collect all-region accolades, including Milwaukee’s Laurie Bell (first team) and Andrew Stone (second team), and UIC’s Bob Novak (second team), Joshua Beard (third team), Slobodan Aleksov (third team) and Jesus Torres (third team). The complete list of regional winners is available at

"Sam had a great season and is very deserving of this honor,” head coach Dan Popik said. “His performances this season demonstrated why he was one of the top forwards in the region."

The honor caps a successful senior campaign for the native from Wauwatosa. Earlier this fall, Krenzien was tabbed to the Horizon League Second Team All-Conference squad after starting all 17 matches while finishing with team-best 11 goals and 26 points. Both totals were personal single-season highs and also ranked him second in the Horizon League. Earlier in the season he earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling a combined eight points in matches against Eastern Illinois and NJIT.

The conference honor was the third postseason conference recognition for Krenzien, after earning all-league first team honors last season in addition to being on the all-newcomer team as a freshman.

For his career at Green Bay, Krenzien appeared in 67 matches, totaling 54 points with 23 goals and eight assists. He was also named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll three times.
