Men's Soccer Hosts Detroit This Weekend

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – The Green Bay men’s soccer team plays its second-consecutive game at Aldo Santaga Stadium on Saturday, welcoming Horizon League opponent Detroit to the field for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.

The game will take place following the women’s conference match against Cleveland State at noon, and features two of the top goal scorers in the Horizon League this season in Green Bay’s Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Detroit’s Adam Bedell. 

Saturday’s contest will be the 23rd all-time between the two squads, with the Titans leading the all-time series 11-7-4. The Phoenix had an eight-match unbeaten streak against the Titans dating back to 2006 before dropping a 2-1 decision on the road last season. During the streak, Green Bay outscored Detroit by a margin of 21-5. Detroit’s last win in Green Bay came during the 2005 season in a close 1-0 battle.

Green Bay enters the weekend 6-4-3 overall and an even 1-1-1 in the Horizon League, currently residing in fourth place. At home this season, the Phoenix is 2-1-1, most recently dropping a 2-1 decision to Drake on Tuesday. 

Krenzien continues to lead the team and conference with 20 points (8g, 4a) and is tied for the conference lead with eight goals. Lawrence Talery (Coon Rapids, Minn.) has a team-best five assists, the second-best total in the Horizon League. Kyle Ihn (Wales, Wis.) has appeared in 11 of 13 matches this season, posting a 1.81 goals-against average and a .701 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE TITANS: Roster Schedule Stats
Detroit enters the weekend 3-6-4 overall and is winless in the Horizon League at 0-3-0. The Titans picked up their first home win of the season on Tuesday, topping Western Michigan 2-0. In conference action, the squad has lost to Milwaukee (3-5), at Oakland (1-2) and against UIC (0-2). The Titans started winless in their first eight contests (0-4-4) but have since gone 3-2-0, with all three wins coming against non-conference opponents. 

Defending Horizon League Men’s Soccer Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year Adam Bedell leads the Detroit offense with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. He has had three multi-goal performances this season, including netting both goals in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Western Michigan. Matt Ybarra has a team-best four assists, while in net Nathan Steinwascher has played the entirety of all 13 matches, recording a 1.28 goals-against average and a .798 save percentage.
