KETTERING, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's golf team opened its final fall tournament in impressive fashion. The Phoenix finished the first round of the Dayton Invitational in first place after shooting a program best score of 304 (+24).

Green Bay sits atop the leaderboard ahead of Horizon League rivals Butler (305), Youngstown State (313), Detroit (314) and Valparaiso (316) after the first round of play.

"The team played very well today. Oddly enough, they left a bunch of shots on the course," said head coach Lucas Hana. "Another couple of putts or bounces and our score would be sub 300, but that's what we're hoping for tomorrow."

The Phoenix placed three golfers in the top seven after the first round of play at the NCR Country Club. Freshman Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis.) shot her best collegiate round, firing a 72 (+2). Meanwhile, junior Eleanor Yorobe (Bloomington, Minn.) also shot her best round, posting a 75 (+5).

"The girls are playing flawless golf and making smart decisions, it's fun to watch," said Hana.

Marschall led the field of 57 with 12 pars and will enter tomorrow's final round in second place, two shots behind Dayton's Julie Pouliquen. Yorobe led the way with four birdies on the 6,358 yard course and will enter the final round in fifth place.

Senior Ellyn Hansen (Milton, Wis.) had three birdies and was even on par-3 holes, placing her in seventh place heading into tomorrow's final round of play after posting a 76 (+6).

Other scorers for Green Bay include Nicole Westcott (Mequon, Wis.) who finished the day in 33rd place after shooting 81 (+11) while Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) shot 84 (+14).

The final round of the Dayton Fall Invitational will tee off tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
