GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams kept their impressive winning streaks alive on Saturday afternoon, as both squads picked up landslide dual meet victories against IUPUI at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium.

The Phoenix women – now 8-0 in dual meets and 17-0 overall – won 11 of 13 events in their 144-89 victory. The men’s team claimed 12 events in the 152-84 triumph, avenging its loss to the Jaguars at the House of Champions Invitational in November. It was the fifth straight dual win for the men’s team, which is now 5-2 on the year.

The Phoenix started fast, as the women won the meet’s first eight events and the men won the first seven while both used great depth to build sizable leads.

Sophomore Anna Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) had a standout meet for the Green Bay women, winning both of her distance races while also helping a relay team to victory.

Gomez started by racing to a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:32.74) in the second event of the day before winning the 500 free in 5:06.67. The sophomore also teamed up with Claire Walters (Northfield, Minn.), Samantha Rottel (New Berlin, Wis.) and Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) for a win in the 400 free relay (3:34.64) in the final event of the afternoon.

Wolf and Walters also won individual events, as Wolf took the 50 free in 24.16, and then Walters edged Wolf in the 100 free with a winning time of 53.20.

Also winning two events for the women were Racheal Weiland (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and Natalie Neuwirth (Stevens Point, Wis.), who started by teaming up with Emily Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) and Haley Lucas (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) for a win in the opening 400 medley relay (3:56.82). Weiland went on to claim the 200 free in 1:55.16, and Neuwirth took the 400 IM in 4:39.67.

The Phoenix was dominant on the diving boards on both sides on Saturday. For the women, it was freshman Crystal Franzwa (Winona, Minn.) who took the 1-meter board with a score of 247.95 and senior Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) who claimed the 3-meter title with a total of 253.42.

Freshman Alyssa Udean (Lino Lakes, Minn.) also won an individual event for Green Bay on Saturday, racing to a win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:08.08.

On the men’s side, it was once again sophomore Willem Poelmans (Hasselt, Belgium) leading the Phoenix with three total wins. Poelmans first anchored the winning 400 medley relay (3:27.98) with the help of teammates Evan Hill (Jefferson, Wis.), Ryan Korslin (Rudolph, Wis.) and Robert Miner (Madison, Wis.). The sophomore then won the 200 free in 1:43.27 and the 500 free with a season-best time of 4:41.91.

Miner and Korslin also grabbed individual wins on the afternoon, as Miner took the 200 butterfly in 1:55.65 and Korslin took home a win in the 200 breast in 2:07.85.

Sophomore Tanner Nordlund (Rice, Minn.) controlled the diving boards on the men’s side, securing a pair of wins. Nordlund first won the 1-meter board with a score of 255.67, and then put up an impressive winning total of 275.62 on the high board.

Ben Loeffelholz (Dubuque, Iowa) was another member of the Phoenix men’s squad to earn two wins on Saturday, as the junior claimed the 50 free in 21.79 before teaming up with Hill, Casey Murphy (Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Cole Hackney (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) for a win in the 400 free relay (3:09.16).

Additional victors on the men’s side were senior Connor Andrew (Centennial, Colo.) in the 1000 free (10:02.38), sophomore Connor Huff (Dubuque, Iowa) in the 400 IM (4:11.17) and senior Brian Heiser (McFarland, Wis.) in the 200 back (1:55.89).

The Green Bay women are next in action on Saturday, Jan. 25 when they host Northern Michigan at noon at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. The men’s team will next compete at the Butler Invite on Sunday, Jan. 26 in Indianapolis.
