CHICAGO, Ill. The Phoenix, led by sophomore Sammi Grunder (Pardeeville, Wis.), is tied for 12th after an opening round 334.

Chicago State is hosting the event at Haborside International Golf Course and sits in first place after an opening round of 306. The 13-team field includes Chicago State, Detroit, Northern Illinois, Indiana State, Cleveland State, UTPA, IPFW, Loyola, Dayton, Creighton, Illinois-Chicago, Green Bay and Eastern Illinois.

Grunder carded an opening round 81 to lead Green Bay in a tie for 33rd. Sophomore Katie Pokrandt (Eau Claire, Wis.) was a stroke back of Grunder after shooting an 82 on Monday. Senior Grace Abitz (Appleton, Wis.) shot an 84 while freshman Avery Steen (Luck, Wis.) and sophomore Steph Laude (Slinger, Wis.) posted rounds of 87 and 88, respectively.

Tuesday’s final round will get underway with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
