Senior Leading Young Phoenix After Opening Round

Senior Christina De Boer carded four birdies in her opening round on Friday.

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. ( – Senior Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) carded four birdies and posted an opening round 80 on Friday, leading Green Bay on Day 1 of the 2013 Horizon League Championships on the par-72, 5,817-yard Las Colinas Course at Mission Inn Resort and Golf Club.

Freshman Katie Pokrandt (Eau Claire, Wis.), who on Thursday was named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, matched De Boer’s score as both players sit in a tie for eighth place.

Green Bay’s team score of 331 left the Phoenix in sixth place after the first 18 holes with the 54-hole tournament set to resume with round two on Saturday morning. To follow the action on Saturday and Sunday with live scoring, click here.

Two other freshmen made their Horizon League Championships debuts on Friday. Sammi Grunder (Pardeeville, Wis.) carded  an 85 to stand in a tie for 28th while Steph Laude’s (Slinger, Wis.) 87 has her in 33rd place. Junior Grace Abitz (Appleton, Wis.) shot an 86 and is in a tie for 30th place.
