Abitz Fires Strong Round to Lead Women's Golf
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Sophomore Grace Abitz (Appleton, Wis.) shaved 12 strokes off of her round one score and posted an 84 on Saturday to lead the Green Bay women's golf team in the second round of the 2012 Horizon League Championship. The Phoenix sits in sixth place with a 36-hole total of 697 (113).
Butler led the eight-team field for the second day in a row with a score of 323 and will enter the final round with an 18-stroke lead over Detroit (672, +88). Loyola (679, +95), Cleveland State (680, +96) and Youngstown State (689, +105) round out the top five.
Senior Eleanor Yorobe (Bloomington, Wis.) followed her opening round 82 with an 87 on Saturday and leads Green Bay in a tie for 13th place overall.
Sophomore Molly Fassbinder (Hudson, Wis.) carded 10 pars on Saturday and cut three strokes off her first round score. After an 85, she is tied for 18th (173, +27). Abitz is now tied for 28th after her strong round (180, +34) wjile senior Stephanie Fifield (Oconto Falls, Wis.) is one more stroke back in 30th place. Junior Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) rounds out the Phoenix golfers in a tie for 34th place.
