Men's Soccer Kicks Off Home Slate on Saturday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s soccer team kicks off its home slate this weekend, taking on Western Illinois on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Viterbo on Monday at 4 p.m.
The team enters the weekend with an overall record of 1-0-1 after opening the season on the road with a 3-2 win at DePaul and a 3-3 draw at then-No. 12 Marquette. The Phoenix put up a combined six goals over the weekend, including two from Sabastian Xiong (Cottage Grove, Wis.). For his success, Xiong was tabbed the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career.

LOOKING AT THE LEATHERNECKS: Roster Schedule Stats
Western Illinois started its season at the Mike Gibbs Memorial Tournament in Florida, falling to North Florida, 2-1, before topping Jacksonville, 1-0. Diego Lopez notched both of Western’s goals and Diego Gonzalez added an assist. Yves Dietrick played the entirety of both matches in net, posting a 1.00 GAA average and an .833 save percentage.
VETTING THE V-HAWKS: Roster Schedule Stats
NAIA member Viterbo will take on Presentation College on Sunday before making the trip to Green Bay for Monday’s matchup. The V-Hawks are 0-3 this season and are led by Jonathan Locast and Jordan Penn, who each have one goal. Luke Newton and Chris Gosselin have split time in net.
