GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - When Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill.) turned 18 on Dec. 30, 2011, he was starting at point guard for Green Bay and had just scored eight points the night before at Butler against an All-Horizon League performer. His Phoenix career was off to a solid start, but the 5-foot-11 guard was showing only a small glimpse of what was to come. Now nearly a year later, Sykes has been named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List as one of the nation's top point guards.Twenty-eight games into adulthood, Sykes will play his last contest as an 18-year old on Saturday night when the Phoenix host South Dakota at 7 p.m., and it is 20-point outbursts like he had against Marquette on Wednesday that have become far more common than single digit efforts.
This season, he has four games with 20 or more points, has reached double figures in 10 of 11 games, and he leads the Phoenix in scoring at 16.7 points per game. Sykes has scored 519 points in just 41 career games, and GreenBayPhoenix.com looks at his top-18 highlights from the age of 18.
The Bob Cousy Award, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men's college basketball.
