Men's Soccer Wraps Up Preseason with 4-2 Victory
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s soccer team finished the preseason with a perfect 2-0 record on Sunday evening, defeating UW-Parkside 4-2 in exhibition action at Santaga Stadium.
The Phoenix continued the high-octane scoring it began on Thursday, notching four goals for the second-consecutive exhibition match. Green Bay scored three goals in the first half and tallied a fourth midway through the second half thanks to a penalty shot.
Playing some of the best soccer on the team so far, Fayçal Oulahbib (Chelles, France) made his presence felt the entire match, scoring the first goal of the game on a strike from the left side of the box before assisting on the team’s second goal scored by Tyler Swanner (Glen Carbon, Ill.).
Green Bay would run the score to 3-0 when Adam Nelson (Mequon, Wis.) busted through the central area of the UW-Parkside defense to strike the ball past the keeper, locating it perfectly into the corner of the net.
An unorthodox penalty call midway through the second half pushed the score line to 4-2, immediately following a penalty kick goal by the visiting Rangers. Sophomore Audi Jepson (Green Bay, Wis.) buried the penalty shot, giving him two goals in two exhibition games.
The team connected well in both preseason matches, controlling the ball possession in the midfield area and creating quality scoring chances that led to eight goals in two games. Green Bay also had two shots hit off the post, narrowly missing a chance for six goals in the match.
The Phoenix can now look forward to the 2014 home and season-opener on Friday, Aug. 29, at 4 p.m. when it takes on Grand Canyon.
