Golf Teams Compete in Second Round

HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. ( - The Green Bay men's and women's golf teams have 18 holes remaining to make a move at the 2011 Horizon League Championships at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. The men sit in sixth place after a second round 321 and the women are in seventh after shooting a 347 in the second round on Saturday.

The Phoenix men slipped from second place to sixth place on Saturday but are still just three shots outside of third place with a two-day total of 633. Cleveland State continues to lead after a second consecutive 308. Detroit had the best second round of the day with a 305 and is three shots behind Cleveland State. Loyola (630, +54), Valparaiso (631, +55) and Wright State (631, +55) are just ahead of the Phoenix in the eight-team field.

Sophomore Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) is on the verge of a top-10 finish after rounds of 75 and 80 that put him alone in 10th place. Senior Austin Ehlenfeldt (Beaver Dam, Wis.) shaved three strokes off his round one with a 79 on the strength of a one-over par 38 on the back nine. He is in a tie for 24th place with a 36-hole total of 161 (+17).

Sophomore Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) is tied for 13th after two solid rounds (76-82=158), senior Chris Pural (Green Bay, Wis.) has had back-to-back 80s to put him in a tie for 22nd while freshman Sam Weber (Heartland, Wis.) is in 32nd place (81-83=164).

On the women's side, the Phoenix was nine shots better on Saturday while firing a 347 are in seventh with a two-day total of 703 (+119). Butler leads with 36-hole total of 650 (+66) while Detroit (654, +70), Cleveland State (670, +86), Loyola (670, +86), Youngstown State (678, +94) and Valparaiso (687, +103) round out the field.

Senior Ellyn Hansen (Milton, Wis.) was 10 strokes better on Saturday while firing a team-best 79 that included 12 pars. She is currently tied for 12th with a 36-hole total of 168 (+22).

Sophomore Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) also was much improved in her second round, firing an 85 that was eight strokes better than round one. De Boer is currently in 28th place at 178 (+32). Junior Eleanor Yorobe (Bloomington, Minn.) is tied for 25th (176, +30) while Steph Fitfield (Oconto Falls, Wis.) and Molly Fassbinder (Hudson, Wis.) round out the scores for the Phoenix women in 30th (181, +35) and 34th (196, +50).

The two teams will conclude play in the 2011 Horizon League Championships on Sunday with the final 18 holes.
