GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay swimming and diving head coach Jim Merner has finalized his 2011-12 roster with the addition of two men and two women in the late signing period. Joining the Phoenix men are Evan Hill (Jefferson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and Timothy Temperley (East Dubuque, Ill./Hempstead), while Dana Iverson (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) and Amanda Walker (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) have signed National Letters of Intent (NLIs) to compete for the seven-time defending Horizon League champion women's team.
Read below for Merner's comments on each individual signee.
Evan Hill
"Evan is a sprinter who was the Wisconsin state
champion in Division 2 for the 50-yard freestyle this past year. He's quick,
he's strong, he's powerful and he also has the capacity to swim a good
butterfly and potentially backstroke and sprint races as well. He's a great
young man, a great student, and I'm really excited to see what he can bring to
the table for us."
Timothy
Temperley
"Tim is tall young man who has really shown a lot of
quick development in the last year and a half in the distance freestyle events.
I think he is going come into our program and accelerate and do very well in
the 500, 1000 and 1650 free styles."
Dana Iverson
"Dana has been one of the best backstroke swimmers in
Wisconsin for the past few years. She comes in as a young woman who has the
potential to be one of the top eight backstroke swimmers in our league right
away as a freshman. While she specializes in the backstroke, she also has a lot
of versatility to help us in a number of other events."
Amanda Walker
"Amanda
was one of the top butterflyers in the state of Wisconsin coming out of high
school. She also has the capacity to swim the backstroke, IM, middle distance
freestyle and sprint freestyle. She's very talented and I'm really excited to
have her joining our team this season."
The four newcomers join seven signees from the early period: men's signees Geoffrey Glover (McFarland, Wis./McFarland), Matt Hollub (Appleton, Wis./Neenah), Ryan Korslin (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Wisconsin Rapids), Ben Loeffelholz (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead), Evan Miller (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) and Casey Murphy (Sun Prairie, Wis.), and women's signee Taylor Crain (New London, Wis./New London).
