GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's swimming and diving team was presented with a congratulatory proclamation by Mayor Jim Schmitt at Tuesday night's city council meeting in downtown Green Bay. The proclamation recognized the team's success during the 2010-11 campaign - winning a seventh consecutive Horizon League championship, earning several awards and maintaining an impressive 3.29 grade-point average.
Accepting the congratulations at the meeting were Green Bay head coach Jim Merner and assistant coach Laurel Yelton.
"It was a wonderful surprise that Mayor Schmitt and the city of Green Bay would choose to honor us in such a way," Merner said. "Listening to what he had to say about our program and how proud he is that we are part of this community really makes us feel good that our team is seen in that light. It truly was a wonderful honor and a great opportunity to put our program out in front of people who may not have heard about us."
Among the accomplishments mentioned in the proclamation were Green Bay's 11-2 dual meet record, the team's seventh straight conference championship, the swimmers' 3.29 GPA, as well as several records and awards.
