GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - A total of 10 school records were broken by Phoenix swimmers and divers at the 2011 Horizon League Championships in Cleveland last week, as the Green Bay women captured their seventh consecutive conference crown and the men earned a fifth-place finish. Seven school standards were snapped on the women's side, including one Horizon League mark, while the men saw three records fall.
Women's senior Alyssa Danielson (Rogers, Minn.) walked away with three school records to her name following the four days in Cleveland, as well as a Horizon League record.
Danielson won the 50-yard freestyle with a school and conference record time of 22.90. The senior also set Green Bay's all-time best mark in the 100-yard freestyle (50.38), breaking Christine Spading's record (50.84) from the 2009 championship meet. In addition, Danielson teamed up with Shannon Demrow (Algonquin, Ill.), Emilee Harry (Sheboygan, Wis.) and Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) to break the 200-yard freestyle relay record in 1:32.49. The quartet edged the 2009 record of 1:32.59 for a second-place finish.
Senior Deanna DeGrand (Green Bay, Wis.) set a pair of records, winning the 1000-yard freestyle and placing third in the 500-yard freestyle. DeGrand's 1000 time of 10:09.99 broke her own 2010 record of 10:11.96, and her 500 time of 4:56.59 beat Melissa Killpatrick's 2010 mark of 4:59.16.
