CLEVELAND (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
– Three more school records went down and junior Ryan Korslin (Rudolph, Wis.) won an individual championship on Friday as the Green Bay men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams wrapped up day three of the 2014 Horizon League Championships at the Busbey Natatorium.

The Phoenix women are in third place in the eight-team field, while the men’s squad is fifth with one day remaining in the meet.

Korslin continued his impressive week at the conference championships by successfully defending his title in the 100-yard breaststroke while securing his third school record in as many days. Korslin broke his own Phoenix standard twice on Friday, first registering the fastest preliminary time (53.71) before winning the finals with a blistering 53.52 – which was also a new Busbey Natatorium record. Korslin was also part of Green Bay’s record-breaking 200 and 400 medley relays on the first two days of competition.

Sophomore Willem Poelmans (Hasselt, Belgium) also earned his third school record of the meet on Friday, racing to a runner-up finish in the 400 IM. The 2013 champion touched in at 3:52.35, edging his previous mark of 3:52.85, set last season. Poelmans had a pair of record-breaking performances on Thursday in the 200 IM and 400 medley relay.

Sophomore diver Tanner Nordlund (Rice, Minn.) had an outstanding day on the boards for the Phoenix men, finishing fourth in the 1-meter competition. Nordlund’s score of 315.95 represented a career best and an NCAA Zone cut, and put him just 13 points behind first-place Danny Roberts of Cleveland State (333.20). The score was also the third-highest total on the 1-meter in Phoenix history.

On the women’s side, Green Bay’s 800 freestyle relay team of Racheal Weiland (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), Claire Walters (Northfield, Minn.), Anna Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) and Natalie Neuwirth (Stevens Point, Wis.) earned a second-place finish while setting a new school record of their own. The quartet finished in 7:25.67, beating the old mark of 7:27.18 from 2012 (Walker, Rottier, Bodin, Wolf).

The Green Bay women were a model of consistency in the 200 freestyle, as all three Phoenix finalists registered identical times and tied for fourth place. Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.), Weiland and Walters each finished in 1:51.54, earning 14 points apiece.

Neuwirth also had a fourth-place showing in the 400 IM, finishing with a time of 4:26.50. Senior Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.) was seventh in the race in 4:30.07.

Freshmen Janna Check (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Haley Lucas (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) were also finalists for the Phoenix women on Friday, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. Emily Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) was seventh in the 100 backstroke, touching in at 57.48.

Other top-eight finishers on the men’s side were Connor Huff (Dubuque, Iowa)  in the 400 IM (sixth, 3:58.34), Cole Hackney (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) in the 100 butterfly (sixth, 49.25), Colin Morgan (McFarland, Wis.) in the 100 breast (sixth, 56.29) and Evan Hill (Jefferson, Wis.) in the 100 backstroke (eighth, 51. 61).

Green Bay is back in action on Saturday for the fourth and final day of competition with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. CT and finals starting at 4:30 p.m. CT. Visit the Horizon League Championship Central Page for a complete schedule and live video links.
