IOWA CITY, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay divers Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) and Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.) wrapped up their participation at the NCAA Zone 'D' Diving Championships at the University of Iowa on Friday. Pogue capped off his standout career by earning the highest Zones scores of any Phoenix diver in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

Making his fourth Zones appearance in as many years, Pogue qualified for finals on both boards, placing 14th out of 18 finalists in Friday's 1-meter competition after a 16th-place showing on the 3-meter board on Thursday. Pogue's totals of 606.15 (3-meter) and 580.85 (1-meter) were the highest in school history in the Zones format. The finishes also matched those of his sophomore season, when he also finished 14th (1-meter) and 16th (3-meter) respectively.

"The good news is that Danny finished his stellar career by placing in the finals in both events - the only Green Bay diver, male or female, to earn that distinction," Phoenix diving coach Tom Stover said. "The not-so-good news is that both events didn't go as well as we were hoping. Although the Zone competition was extraordinarily strong again this year, both divers could have placed much higher with their more typical dives."

This year marked Spaeth's first career trip to Zones. The junior placed 24th in the 3-meter event with a score of 257.85 and 25th in the 1-meter competition with 245.05.

"In his first Zones competition, Mitchell gained valuable experience competing in this power-packed venue," Stover said. "It was good for him and should carry over to his senior year next season. Another good sign for the future is that Mitchell added a very difficult dive to his 1-meter list for the first time and performed quite well."

Pogue ends his Green Bay career as the school's record holder in both the 1-meter (379.15) and 3-meter (352.20) - both set at the 2012 Horizon League Championships. For his efforts, Pogue was named the Horizon League Diver of the Meet for the second straight year, and was also named conference diver of the week a league-record 16 times in his career.
