GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women’s basketball team officially kicked off its 2013-14 season with the first practice on Monday afternoon in the Dick Bennett gym at the Kress Events Center.
The squad has been going through individual workouts for the past month, but Monday marked the first time the team and coaches could come together and practice as a group as it prepares for the new season. Three new faces joined the nine returnees from a season ago, donning new practice jerseys and an intensity and excitement to get the year started.
“We have a lot of new faces so practice now involves a lot of teaching, a lot of learning,” said head coach Kevin Bortseth. “But the ladies are receptive and understand we have a ways to go, but plenty of time to get there.
“Practice today was intense. Some of the veterans understand what it takes to move up and the key now is relaying that to the younger players so they understand how important every second of the game is, and we emphasize that as much as we can in practice.”
