GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on Saturday afternoon to the University of Chicago at Western Racquet and Fitness Club. For the second straight match it was freshman Stephanie Londre (Burlington, Wis.) picking up the lone point for the Phoenix -- a comeback win at No. 2 singles.
After suffering a 6-2 first-set loss to Chicago's Linden Li, Londre charged back to win 6-4 in the second set before taking the decisive tiebreaker 10-4.
"Londre continues to lead by example in singles," Phoenix head coach Sara Schubring said. "She is dictating points with depth and shot placement. A flawless midcourt game when down a break in the second set spurred her on to the win."
The Phoenix got off to a slow start in doubles action, losing all three contests to surrender the match's first point. The Maroons carried the momentum into singles play, taking all but the No. 2 match.
Green Bay begins a three-match road stretch on Friday, Feb. 22 at Northern Iowa at 5 p.m. in Waterloo, Iowa.
