GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Entering Tuesday’s final round of the Green Bay Invitational, the host Phoenix had some ground to make up in order to hoist the tournament trophy. Trailing Loyola by eight strokes after round one, Green Bay shot a team score of 293 in windy conditions at Green Bay Country Club, besting the Ramblers by 12 shots in round two and winning the tournament title by four shots.

Green Bay’s 36-hole total on the 7,097-yard, par-72 course was 585 (292-293) while Loyola finished at 589 (284-305). St. Ambrose finished in third place (613=302-311) while Creighton (618=304-314), Chicago State (618=298-320) and Lewis (618=309-309) tied for fourth place.

Just like his team, Phoenix junior Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) was looking up the leaderboard when Tuesday’s round began. Playing alongside first round leader Nick Dennis of Loyola, Boockmeier started on No. 10 made the turn in even par for the day (7 pars, 1 birdie, 1 bogey) and 1-under for the tournament, still two strokes back of Dennis.

Boockmeier birdied No. 1, his tenth hole of the day, after nearly driving the green. Another birdie at the third hole left the junior tied for the lead with six holes to play. Dennis made bogeys at No. 4 and No. 7 to give Boockmeier a two shot edge with two to play. Both players parred the par-3 eighth hole, and after Dennis sank a 15-footer for birdie, Bookmeier connected on a six-footer for par and a 1-stroke victory.

After carding seven birdies and seven pars on Monday, Bookmeier had 14 pars, three birdies and just a lone bogey on Tuesday. With rounds of 71 and 70, he was the lone player in the field with two rounds under par.

Senior Joseph Collard (Marinette, Wis.) had rounds of 73 and 74 to finish in fifth place (147) while sophomore Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) tied for sixth place (148=72-76) and senior Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) was just one more shot back in a tie for eighth place (149=76-73). On Tuesday, Ozga was 3-over par after six holes before playing the final 12 holes in 2-under par with 10 pars and two birdies.

Just four shots back of Boockmeier was a member of the Green Bay White team, redshirt freshman Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.). With a 3-under par 69 on Tuesday which included five birdies and just two bogeys, Du Chateau tied the low round of the tournament. The freshman’s 36-hole total of 145 (76-69) left him tied with Loyola’s Alex Cusumano for third place.
