GREEN BAY, Wis. ( - Student-athletes at UW-Green Bay continued to shine in the classroom in the fall semester of 2012, as the Green Bay Phoenix athletics department's 16 Division I sport programs combined to earn a 3.24 grade-point average. It marked the impressive 26th-straight semester above a 3.0, and the highest fall GPA in school history.

These accomplishments will be celebrated at Thursday night's men's basketball game at 7 p.m. against Wright State when Green Bay hosts its annual Academic Achievement Night presented by Prevea Health. All Phoenix student-athletes who posted a 3.5 GPA or higher in the fall semester of 2012 or spring semester of 2011 will be recognized, and the department will also welcome and say thank you to the UW-Green Bay faculty and staff.

"I continue to be impressed and extremely proud of the hard work and accomplishments of our Phoenix student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Ken Bothof. "Continuing this streak and having so many teams and student-athletes achieve this level of success is a strong statement about the commitment our coaches and student-athletes have to academics. It is also a testament to the hard work of a lot of people, including Academic Coordinator Mike Kline, the UW-Green Bay faculty, our athletics department staff, academic advisors and tutors, and mentor Darrell Patterson. We are all looking forward to recognizing these accomplishments Thursday during a special night."

In addition to being the school's highest fall GPA (3.20 in fall 2011), the 3.24 average was also the third-highest overall, trailing only last spring's record-setting 3.27 and spring 2003's 3.25. Green Bay Athletics has now posted three straight semesters above a 3.20, and nine straight above a 3.10.

Thirteen of the 16 Phoenix teams achieved a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher, while 11 were above a 3.20. Men's tennis led the way with an impressive 3.70 GPA, while volleyball was the top women's team in second at 3.59.

Women's cross country (3.57) and softball (3.53) both finished with GPAs above 3.5, while women's tennis (3.32) and women's swimming and diving (3.31) were both above a 3.3. Men's golf (3.29), women's Nordic skiing (3.27), women's basketball (3.26) and women's golf (3.25) rounded out the top-10, all coming in at 3.25 or better.

One hundred and seventy-five of Green Bay's 246 student-athletes (71 percent) achieved above a 3.0, including 24 with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A total of 114 (46 percent) received University honors for achieving a 3.5 GPA or better.

Green Bay also had seven student-athletes named to the Academic All-Horizon League Teams in the fall. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
