GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - It has been less than a month since the Green Bay men's basketball team ended its season, but the Phoenix players have been back in the gym working hard on their games, both collectively and individually. Now, with Spring Break in the books, the team's individual workouts have been in full swing the last couple of weeks.

"It's nice to be back on the floor with your teammates," said rising junior Kam Cerroni (Sussex, Wis.). "I love every one of them and I love being out there with those guys. We've been stressing 'believe', that everybody has to buy in. If one person doesn't buy in it's not going to work, and I think everybody's buying in to what we're doing."

With eight players returning for 2012-13, including five players with 20 or more career starts, Green Bay is starting the spring of Brian Wardle's third year as head coach in a more experienced position than either of the past two seasons.

"We all know what to expect having been around individual workouts for at least a year now," said Cerroni. "Everybody talks, everybody has really high energy and I think everybody's been real positive. We have not had a bad workout yet, which is real exciting looking ahead to next year."

Cerroni was one of the main Phoenix players that benefitted from time in the gym last season. After missing the offseason prior to his freshman campaign due to knee surgery, the Sussex native struggled to just 20 percent from long range his rookie season.

After a full offseason prior to 2011-12, Cerroni developed into one of the best shooters in the Horizon League. He shot 46.5 percent from three-point range to lead the conference, a percentage that was also ninth-best in school history. Cerroni averaged 7.9 points per game and his 60 three-pointers made were the most by a Green Bay sophomore since Tony Bennett in 1989-90.

That improvement makes Cerroni more excited to be in the gym this offseason, and he is trying to add more dimensions to his game.

"I've been working on different ways to get my shot off," Cerroni said. "Last year, I worked on having a quicker release, and I think that got a lot better. Now I'm working on things like a step-back and a dribble pull-up to add to my game. We take time in each workout to work one-on-one with the coaches and work on what you specifically need to improve."
