GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – At the beginning of the 2011-12 season, Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill.) caught the eye of many when, as the nation’s youngest player, he was the starting point guard for the Green Bay men’s basketball team at the age of 17. As an 18-year old, he scored 451 points in 29 games.

In his time as a 19-year old, Sykes was named to the All-Horizon League First-Team, became the third-fastest player in the program’s Division I history to join the 1,000-point club, won four of his program record seven Horizon League Player of the Week awards, became the first Phoenix player since 1980 to score 20 or more points in six-straight games, and averaged 16.8 points while scoring 572 points in 34 games.

Through 76 career games as a college teenager, Sykes has totaled 1,108 points, 306 assists and grabbed 215 rebounds. After celebrating his 20th birthday on Monday, Sykes will put his teenage years behind him and begin a new decade on the court on Thursday when Green Bay opens Horizon League play, hosting Cleveland State at 7 p.m.

With Horizon League action starting on Thursday, Green Bay is offering fans the chance to purchase a Horizon League 3-Game Pack. The 3-game pack begins at just $31 for adults and $19 for youth and allows Phoenix fans to attend any three 2013-14 league games of their choice. Beginning this week with games against Cleveland State (Thursday, 7 p.m.) and Youngstown State (Saturday, 1 p.m.), head coach Brian Wardle’s team welcomes each of its conference opponents to the Resch Center in January or February.

Frequent questions were asked in the preseason about whether three-point shooting would be a Phoenix weakness. Entering Thursday, Green Bay ranks first in the Horizon League in three-point percentage (39.7%). Senior Vincent Garrett (Chicago, Ill.) leads the conference at 61.9 percent (13-21), senior Alec Brown (Winona, Minn.) ranks fourth at 45.9 percent (17-37) and sophomore Carrington Love (Milwaukee, Wis.) is tied for 12th at 40 percent (18-45).

In the first three games of its current five-game homestand, Green Bay has used second-half spurts to build insurmountable leads. Against Tennessee Tech, the Phoenix scored 27 of the first 29 points after intermission. In a 74-58 win over Fairfield, a second half run of 27-11 build a 21-point lead, and on Saturday against St. Francis, Green Bay opened the second half with a 30-2 run en route to a 91-41 victory.

  • With his 13 points on Saturday, Brown went over 1,400 career points and moved into the top-10 on the program’s all-time scoring chart.
  • With 707 career rebounds, Brown has moved past Jeff Nordgaard into fifth place on Green Bay’s all-time rebounding list.
  • Sykes went over 1,100 career points and 300 career assists last Saturday. Sykes now ranks 22nd all-time in career points.

  • The Phoenix has held six of its 12 opponents this season to below 31 percent from the field and leads the Horizon League in field goal percentage defense at 36.9 percent.
  • Including a 6-1 record this season, the Phoenix improved to 40-10 at home in four seasons under head coach Brian Wardle.
  • The Phoenix is 8-0 in 2013-14 when scoring 70-plus points.
  • Green Bay blocked 10 shots against St. Francis, tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Of the top-13 single-game team block efforts in program history, seven have occurred this season.
  • With an average of 8.1 blocks per game this season, Green Bay is second nationally and first in the Horizon League.
  • With 97 blocks through 12 games, the Phoenix is on pace to break the Horizon League and Green Bay records for blocks in a season.
  • Brown leads the Horizon League and ranks 11th nationally in blocks per game (3.5).
  • With 257 blocks in his career, Brown sits 52 blocks shy of the Horizon League record of 309, set last season by Youngstown State’s Damian Eargle.
  • Fouse has grabbed five or more rebounds in 31-straight games dating back to his freshman season.
  • After leading the Horizon League as a freshman, Fouse is again atop the conference charts in rebounds per game (8.6).
