GREEN BAY, Wis. ( – Green Bay and Harvard fought back and forth for much of Friday night’s semifinal contest of the Great Alaska Shootout, but in the end a dry spell on the offensive end was too much for the Phoenix to overcome in a 76-64 defeat. The Phoenix, 3-2 on the season, will look to bounce back on Saturday at 9 p.m. CT and claim third-place against Tulsa (1-5), which fell 72-65 to TCU in Friday’s other semifinal.

Danny Manning’s Tulsa team is much better than its record would indicate. The team’s losses include games against nationally-ranked opponents Wichita State and Creighton, and the Golden Hurricane defeated Indiana State 63-62 in the third-place game on Thursday night.

In Green Bay’s loss to Harvard, the Crimson used a 10-run late in the second half to turn a two-point deficit into an 8-point lead. Harvard then sank all 10 of its free throws in the final three minutes to seal the victory.

The game between Green Bay and Tulsa will televised on national television by CBS Sports Network, but the contest will not air until 1:30 a.m. CT. For the third-straight night, Brent Stover (play-by-play) and Pete Gillen (color analyst) on the call.

LIVE COVERAGE: Fans can listen live to a radio broadcast of the contest on WNFL 1440 AM or online at with Matt Menzl (play-by-play) and Andrew Gavin (analyst) on the call.

CLOSE TO A GRAND: Sykes enters Saturday night’s game with 986 career points, and with 14 or more points against Tulsa will become the program’s 26th member of the 1,000-point club. The 5-foot-11 Chicago native would become the third fastest player in the program’s Division I history to reach the milestone behind Tony Bennett (56 games) and Richard Sims (68 games). Saturday is Sykes’ 70th game, and the junior is averaging 14.3 points per game in his career.

SEEING 20/20: After totaling 26 points on Friday, Sykes has now scored 20 or more points in four-straight games (32, 21, 23, 26). He is the first Phoenix player to score 20 or more in at least four consecutive games since Jeff Nordgaard accomplished the feat in five-straight contests from Jan. 20-Feb. 10, 1996.

STREAKING SOPHOMORE: Sophomore Jordan Fouse has opened the 2013-14 season by extending two impressive statistical streaks. The 6-foot-7 sophomore wing has blocked at least one shot in 28-straight games. The reigning rebounding champion in the Horizon League has also grabbed five or more boards in 24 consecutive games.  In five games this season, Fouse is averaging 8.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots.
