GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - It will be a quick turnaround for the Green Bay women's basketball team (18-2, 8-0 HL), as the Phoenix returns home to host Milwaukee (5-14, 1-6 HL) on Saturday after squeaking out a 65-62 win at Loyola on Thursday. The game will be part of Alumni Weekend, with dozens of student-athletes from the program's rich 40-year history expected to be in attendance. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. from the Kress Center.
Green Bay improved to 3-0 this season when trailing at the half after holding on for a wild 65-62 win at Loyola on Thursday. The game featured 12 lead changes and eight ties, but in the final seconds back-to-back scores in the post from Breannah Ranger (Skokie, Ill.) and a free throw from Lydia Bauer (Lake Zurich, Ill.) helped put Green Bay on top. Loyola had a chance to tie the game with less than two seconds remaining, but the three point attempt didn't fall in the Ramblers' favor.
Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) led Green Bay with 22 points and eight rebounds in the win, while Ranger added 11 points. The win was the 13th in a row for the Phoenix, which hasn't lost since Dec. 5 at Central Michigan.
SCOUTING MILWAUKEE: The Panthers travel up I-43 with a 5-14 record and are currently on a four-game losing streak. Milwaukee last won on Jan. 19 at Cleveland State, sneaking by with a 63-60 victory. The team has lost 10 of its last 11 games, but nearly defeated Detroit at home last Saturday before falling 61-50.
ALUMNI WEEKEND: Numerous former Phoenix greats are expected to be in attendance for Saturday's game, and they will be recognized for their achievements. Banners will be unveiled to highlight the success of Green Bay's Division II teams of the early and mid-1980s, and an alumni game will take place at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon.
ALL-TIME SERIES NOTES: Milwaukee has given Green Bay more trouble than any other Horizon League team with 17 victories in the series, but the Phoenix has won 15 straight in the series. Green Bay holds a 55-17 all-time edge over Milwaukee, and hasn't lost in the series since the 2005-06 season.
ALMOST IN THE CLUB: Senior Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) enters Saturday's game with 979 career points, just 21 shy of becoming the second Green Bay player to join the program's 1,000-point club this season. Ritchie joined the club on a three against Indianapolis on Nov. 30, making her the 30th player in program history to accomplish the feat.
HOME SWEET HOME: Saturday's game will kick off a four-game homestand for the Phoenix, which has played five of its last six on the road. The four-game stay at the Kress Center will be the longest streak of home games this season, with contests against Milwaukee, Cleveland State, Youngstown State and Valparaiso taking place over the next two weeks.
