Amy Olson (Strohmeyer), #14, 1997

Amy was one of those rare Division I student-athletes who enjoyed successful careers in two different sports. Originally recruited by the women's basketball team she played for former Phoenix coach Carol Hammerle from 1994-1997. But because she had also excelled at volleyball in high school, she chose to play volleyball during her fifth year of eligibility. Despite only playing one season of volleyball for the Phoenix, she left her mark on the 1997 team as its starting outside hitter. She was #3 on the team in kills and #2 in service aces and digs.

Where is she now you ask?

Amy graduated in 1998 with an art degree and married Mike Olson soon after graduation. They recently had their first child, Lucas who is now 10 months old. They live near Sparta, WI where Amy is the Head Volleyball Coach at La Crosse Central and is a substitute teacher. Both her and Mike continue to be active in leagues in just about any sport. She still has the distinction of being the only Green Bay volleyball camp coach to tear her ACL while playing with the other camp coaches in between sessions!
