Green Bay Kicks Off Second Half of League Action Friday at Milwaukee
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - With the first half of the Horizon League schedule in the books, the Green Bay volleyball team will turn its attention to the home stretch beginning Friday. The Phoenix will open the second half of its league schedule just as it did the first half, playing against Milwaukee. This time the match will be on the road, with Green Bay looking for revenge beginning at 7 p.m.
In the first meeting between the two teams, Milwaukee defeated Green Bay at the Kress Center in three sets. Sophomore Carmen Leitermann (Schofield, Wis.) had 10 kills in that contest while senior Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) tallied 30 assists, but the Phoenix could not overcome 22 attack errors.
Green Bay's offense has been sharper of late, with junior Abbey Gitter (Hortonville, Wis.) tallying 50 kills in the previous three matches and Schott recording 151 assists. Both players had career highs Sunday against Butler, with Gitter notching 22 kills and Schott dishing out 66 assists.

PHOENIX IN THE RANKINGS: Groth leads all Horizon League players in digs (178) and digs per set (5.56) in conference play. Through the first half of the league schedule, other Phoenix players are also among the league leaders. Schott is first in the conference in assists per set (11.11) while Gitter ranks third in kills per set (3.15).
HONOR ROLL: Sophomore Brittany Groth (Oak Creek, Wis.) was honored this past week by the Horizon League, being named the conference's defensive player of the week. The libero had 81 digs in three matches last week, including 36 Sunday against Butler, the third-highest total in school history.
