The Phoenix welcomes an in-state foe at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay volleyball team will take a break from Horizon League play for the last time on Wednesday, hosting Marquette at 7 p.m. at the Kress Events Center. The game will highlight the program's Compete to Beat Initiative, which is a partnership with Bellin Health in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On Wednesday, the teams will play with pink game balls and the Phoenix will wear pink warm-ups. The pink game balls will be autographed and auctioned off along with other Compete to Beat items on the Green Bay Phoenix auction site. The auction will benefit the Green Bay Phoenix Compete to Beat Fund, which provides support for patients and families with treatment-based needs.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to Wednesday's game, which will also feature Miss Wisconsin 2010 Kimberly Sawyer singing the national anthem.

Green Bay enters Wednesday's match after splitting a pair of league matches last weekend. The Phoenix posted a 3-0 sweep of Wright State on Saturday before falling to Butler Sunday 3-2.

Sophomore Brittany Groth (Oak Creek, Wis.) was rewarded for her recent strong play when she was named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Groth had 81 digs in three matches during the week, including 36 Sunday against Butler, the third-highest total in program history.

Marquette enters Wednesday's match at 11-7 overall and 3-2 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles are coming off wins over St. John's and UCONN this past weekend.

PHOENIX IN THE RANKINGS: Groth leads all Horizon League players in digs (178) and digs per set (5.56) in conference play. Through the first half of the league schedule, other Phoenix players are also among the league leaders. Senior Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) is first in the conference in assists per set (11.11) while junior Abbey Gitter (Hortonville, Wis.) ranks third in kills per set (3.15).
