MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Playing in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Championship Friday night in Milwaukee, the Green Bay volleyball team was unable to extend its winning streak, and the fifth-seeded Phoenix fell to fourth-seeded Valparaiso in straight sets, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19. Green Bay had won four-straight matches entering Friday.

Junior Abbey Gitter (Hortonville, Wis.) led the Phoenix with nine kills in the match while sophomore Carmen Leitermann (Schofield, Wis.) added six kills and three blocks.

Playing in her final match with the Phoenix, senior setter Whitney Schott handed out 24 assists while adding nine digs and three kills. She ends her career with 2,227 assists in just two seasons with the program after transferring to Green Bay.

Finishing off an impressive season with a strong match, sophomore Brittany Groth (Oak Creek, Wis.) tallied 24 digs for the Phoenix. Despite not starting early in the season, Groth accumulated 506 digs on the season, good for the sixth-highest total in Green Bay history.

Green Bay concludes its 2010 season at 12-19 overall. After beginning the Horizon League season at 4-8, the Phoenix won four-straight matches to end the conference season at .500. Head coach Debbie Kirch will return every player except Schott in 2011, with freshman Leah Poel (Jenson, Mich.) expected to step in and set for Green Bay.
